How Clean Is Bare Minerals Makeup
As the second function of my high-street dazzler investigation, I take a look into Blank Minerals*, and just how 'bare' their cosmetics really are.
A good while agone, I visited my local Blank Minerals counter for a makeup revamp – I wanted a personalised service that withal stuck to my natural beauty principles.
My Experience At The Bare Minerals Counter…
Going to the counter was quite a daunting experience, as I've never been a fan of critiquing my features in the mirror while strangers helped me try to achieve a new look – hairdressers even so is my version of the dentists! Notwithstanding, forgetting that I was beingness sold a service, I actually had a proficient time one time I had been seated and my own makeup had been gently removed.
The shop banana who practical my makeup was proficient in noticing my skin's condition – at the fourth dimension, I had quite red, dry out cheeks and I wanted to hide that. Instead of merely listening to me request for a coverup though, she get-go moisturised my skin and then practical Redness Remedy*, a yellow-shaded powder that aims to calm downward red tones.
Next she colour-matched my pare to a shade of Pure Brightening Serum Foundation*, applying it with a apartment-ended Perfecting Face Brush* and showing me the techniques I needed to recreate it myself. Afterward she went over any remaining blemishes with an SPF 20 Concealer* – suffice to say, I came away with a cute peel tone – only I was caked.
My Thoughts Once I Got Home…
Later on everything, I bought the redness solution, foundation, and concealer – this set up me dorsum just over £70, which however makes me affluent hot and common cold thinking about it. I'm totally for paying out for natural, organic products that are effective and last, only unfortunately I've plant the redness remedy powder to be quite useless when I utilize information technology at home (my blemishes are also more under command now). The foundation also remains a cakey matter, which isn't not bad for my dry skin.
My main question hither though is if these products are really natural?! At the time, I was quite happy to close my eyes and purchase into Bare Minerals' marketing, only what story exercise the ingredients tell?
Well, turning to my list of 25 harmful dazzler ingredients to avoid, I institute the ingredients lists to be full with metal oxides – something which may not seem all that troublesome, but when likened to aluminium's furnishings in certain deodorants, makes me recall they shouldn't be anywhere near my pare.
Just like in my review of The Trunk Shop, information technology depends on what yous're looking for when you buy natural beauty. I tend to expect constitute-derived ingredients, with some inorganic materials similar clay or salt. Metal oxides however seems a picayune far from that, and especially when there are plenty of cleaner natural dazzler brands to shop with online.
What 'Minerals' are in Bare Minerals?
To round up this experiment, my approximate that the minerals that Blank Minerals refers to in its name and marketing are the dusty mineral deposits you lot'd link their metal-based ingredients lists too. These are not from plants, nor practice they boost your skin wellness (like the 'vitamins and minerals' nosotros're always told to eat).
The rest of the ingredients lists I examined were peppered with found-based ingredients and a few not and so clean scents such as limonene and linalool, which tin can cause irritation. On height of that, in that location was a lack of clarity wherever the ingredient 'soil minerals' popped up, which is vague at best and hiding something at worst.
Equally I've noted before, a lot of these products cannot be certified as organic because they are made upwards of non-living ingredients, simply this strays into the night area of not knowing whether something has come straight from the earth such as leap water, dirt, or sea mud, or whether it'due south had a trivial tampering along the way.
Bare Minerals is Not vegan, and is NOT cruelty-gratuitous certified
From reading more than about the brand, it also turns out that Blank Minerals is not vegan – cherry is freely used (that's crushed beetles, which I always avert), and they also use bee bi-products like beeswax.
If you're looking for vegan beauty I suggest trying boutique brands via natural beauty sites such as LoveLula* or Content Dazzler*, which are my favourite places to store. (If you're still looking for places to shop, my guide to finding sustainable beauty brands may be useful!)
In terms of cruelty-gratuitous status (testing on animals, rather than employ of their byproducts), plainly Bare Minerals is cruelty-gratis, simply is not certified, and they do non mention this on their packaging. Their parent company is not certified either.
So, will I exist returning to Bare Minerals? Sadly not – both for the impurity of their products, and their full general mediocre functioning. I dear a good brand that promotes natural alternatives, but unfortunately for me, they are merely not natural plenty.
